Crash on startup: access to the database file is not allowed
Posted by Gianluca Tedone, Last modified by Gianluca Tedone on 07 February 2013 02:43 PM

Sometimes the database created by Dive Organizer during its setup doesn’t give the needed access rights to be used by all Windows users.

This issue is related to an error message with a such exception:

Type: System.Data.SqlServerCe.SqlCeException
Message: Access to the database file is not allowed. [ File name = C:\ProgramData\DiveOrganizer\DiveOrganizer.sdf ]

and the program can’t start at all (the application stops to work).

This issue affected the earlier installations, unlikely the updates based on it.

You can fix it keeping updated the product, giving the administrative rights to the "DoCLI.exe" internal utility if requested.

You may want to use this patch, which grants full access to the database folder.

Or try to make the same operations following this video

NOTE. You'll be prompted to use your administrative rights once to apply these patches.
